This postgraduate course is designed on the basis that SIE is a complex and constantly evolving field. The topics herein provide students with an advanced overview of the field of SIE, having gone through a post graduate diploma course in SIE, with its development in a broader historical and social context. Students will develop proficiency with key terminologies, legislation and policies and foundational concepts, to facilitate an examination of a variety of perspectives and models of assessment, intervention and support in SIE. A core focus of the weekly topics is an understanding of the philosophy of inclusion and its associated practices and implications for contemporary schools and service settings. Students will engage with a range of contemporary and topical issues related to SIE; they will be able to critically analyze the depiction of these issues in society and the media, and evaluate relevant current research.
